| February 13-16 marked the USPTA's Texas Division Conference. It was an incredible weekend filled with great networking opportunities and educational seminars. Not to mention the Casino Night is always dealing out the fun. The Women's Committee presented their on-court presentation for the second year in a row. During this one hour presentation Julie Cass of Westwood Country Club in Austin, Karen Crumpton Director of Tennis at Cherokee C.C. in Jacksonville, TX and Nancy Vivero of Quail Valley C.C. in Missouri City, shared some of their favorite drills. Thanks for representing us all! Congratulations to... Karen Crumpton- She was elected to the Texas USPTA Board of Directors. She will serve as the only woman currently on the board. Julie Cass - She was awarded USPTA "Women's Open Player of the Year"! Cathy Vick - She was awarded "Women's 35's Player of the Year" Sheryl Behne - She was awarded "Women's Senior Player of the Year" Nancy Vivero - She recieved the coveted "Charlie McCleary Community Service Award" Looking Forward... At the convention, the Women's Comittee met and several ideas were discussed. The biggest being the birth of an online newsletter targeted to women membersof the USPTA Texas division. The purpose of this newsletter would be to better inform our members of upcoming events, to encourage and promote the active involvement of female tennis professionals and to provide some great examples of successful women role model in the tennis community. If you were unable to attend this meeting or the convention, and have suggestions please contact Kelly Marshall at tenisbrat@aol.com or 512-345-4700. |
